Catering supplies and hotel FF&E or OS&E are different categories from different suppliers in Cyprus. Here's how to tell which one your property actually needs.
Catering supplies and hotel FF&E or OS&E are different categories bought from different suppliers. Catering supplies means commercial kitchen and food-service equipment: ovens, refrigeration, bar fittings, tableware. FF&E and OS&E cover everything else a hotel operates with: guest-room furniture, bathroom fittings, housekeeping equipment, linens and amenities. A search for "catering supplies Cyprus" and a search for "hotel supplies Cyprus" are, in practice, looking for two different supplier lists.
The confusion is understandable. Both terms describe things a hotel buys to operate, both sit under the umbrella of hospitality procurement, and a general web search mixes the results together. Knowing which one you actually need before you start requesting quotes saves a week of talking to the wrong company.
In the Cyprus market, "catering supplies" and "HORECA equipment" are used more or less interchangeably. Search either term and the results are commercial kitchen fit-out specialists: combi ovens, walk-in refrigeration, grease traps, bar equipment, chef's tableware, and stainless steel fabrication for kitchen lines. This is back-of-house, food-and-beverage equipment, bought by a hotel's executive chef or F&B manager, typically from a HORECA-specialist supplier with its own refrigeration engineers and kitchen designers on staff.
FF&E, Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment, is the durable, capitalised equipment a hotel is furnished with: bedroom casegoods, bathroom fittings, wardrobes, desks. OS&E, Operating Supplies and Equipment, is the consumable layer that goes with it: linens, guest amenities, housekeeping trolleys, in-room electronics. Together they cover a guest room, a corridor, a lobby, a housekeeping store, everything except the kitchen and bar. This is what a Cyprus property's general manager or owner buys directly, usually project by project rather than as a recurring restock.
A single Cyprus supplier rarely does both well. A HORECA specialist with refrigeration engineers is not the right call for bedroom casegoods or a housekeeping trolley fleet, and an FF&E and OS&E supplier is not who you want fitting a commercial kitchen line. Sending an RFQ to the wrong list wastes a round of quotes and, worse, can land you with a supplier who takes the job outside their real expertise to avoid losing it.
If the item goes behind the kitchen pass or serves food and drink, it's catering supplies. If it's in a guest room, bathroom, corridor, lobby or housekeeping store, it's FF&E or OS&E. Amenity trays and minibars sit on the OS&E side even though they touch food and drink, because they are guest-room fixtures, not kitchen equipment.
A common case in Cyprus: a boutique property in Paphos or Limassol opens a dozen rooms with an attached breakfast room or small restaurant. That single project needs two separate RFQs run in parallel, one to a HORECA supplier for the kitchen and service equipment, one to an FF&E and OS&E supplier for the rooms, bathrooms and public areas. Talk through the split with us before you send either RFQ if you're not sure where a specific item falls, it's a five-minute question.
In-room minibars and amenity trays sit in a genuine grey area: they hold food and drink, but they are guest-room fixtures, not kitchen line equipment, and they are sourced and specified alongside the rest of a room's FF&E, not through a HORECA supplier. If in doubt about a specific item, the test above resolves it in almost every case a Cyprus property will run into.
