Hotel linen for the UAE needs to survive commercial laundering, not just look good on delivery day. For bath towels, 550 to 600 GSM is the range most hospitality buyers land on: heavy enough to feel like a five-star property, light enough to dry quickly and cheaply in a market where laundry runs constantly and energy costs money.

Go heavier than that and the towel does not automatically feel more luxurious to a guest. It just takes longer to dry, which means more dryer cycles, more energy, and slower turnaround on a high-occupancy property where housekeeping is already working against the clock.

GSM (grams per square metre) measures density, not quality on its own. Above roughly 800 GSM, a towel takes measurably longer to dry, which compounds fast across a property doing multiple laundry cycles a day. Below about 400 GSM, a towel reads as thin and cheap to a guest regardless of thread quality. The 550 to 600 GSM band is where most UAE hospitality suppliers and buyers converge for a reason: it is the point where guest-facing feel and laundering economics stop fighting each other.

Unlike some Gulf markets that source hospitality textiles almost entirely from overseas, the UAE has a genuine local manufacturing base, with several UAE-based mills that have supplied hotels for decades. That matters for a buyer because locally finished linen can mean a faster reorder and an easier size or colour adjustment than a fully imported programme, though it does not automatically mean cheaper. Ask directly whether goods are woven and finished in-country or simply warehoused here after being imported; the answer changes your realistic reorder lead time. "Hospitality grade" is marketing language with no fixed meaning. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is a specific, checkable certification confirming a textile has been tested for harmful substances, which is the credential worth asking a supplier to produce rather than taking a verbal assurance. It does not certify durability or GSM on its own, so pair it with the GSM figures above and a wash-cycle rating rather than treating it as a complete quality guarantee.
